How to Convert AVIF to JPG

Make your AVIF images work everywhere

Why convert AVIF to JPG?

AVIF is a newer format and not yet supported in all browsers (especially older ones), image editors, or sharing platforms.

JPG works everywhere — every device, every browser, every app. If you need to share an image and want zero compatibility issues, JPG is the safest choice.

Step by step

  1. 1. Go to the AVIF to JPG converter
  2. 2. Drop your AVIF files or click to browse
  3. 3. Adjust quality if needed (default 90% preserves most detail)
  4. 4. Download individual files or all as a ZIP

Transparency handling

AVIF supports transparency, but JPG does not. When you convert an AVIF image with transparent areas, those areas are filled with a background color.

  • Default fill is white — Transparent pixels become white in the output JPG.
  • You can change this — Open the settings panel in the converter to pick a different background color.

Quality settings

The quality slider controls how much compression is applied. Higher values mean better quality but larger files.

  • 90+ (high quality) — Best for archiving or when quality matters most. Minimal visible difference from the original.
  • 75-89 (recommended) — Good balance between quality and file size. Works well for sharing and general use.
  • 50-74 (smaller files) — Noticeable compression, but much smaller files. Good for thumbnails or previews.

See the JPG format page for more details on how JPG compression works.

File size expectations

JPG files will often be larger than the original AVIF since AVIF uses more efficient compression. A typical increase is 2-5x, depending on the quality setting you choose.

  • Lower quality = smaller files — Dropping quality from 90 to 75 can cut file size significantly with minimal visible change.
  • Need smaller files? — Consider converting to WebP instead. WebP offers better compression than JPG while still being widely supported.
